Period Q and A
Q. What will happen on my first period?
A. Your first period is likely to be light, so there's only a slight chance that you will leak through your clothes. You might notice some brownish/reddish streaks or spots when your first period starts, so wear a pad. If you don't have any pads, ask a woman for one and get a box asap!
Q. When will I get my period?
A. Most girls get their period between the ages 9 and 16. There is no way to be 100% sure, but puberty has a lot to do with genetics. Just ask your mom when she got hers, and you're likely to start yours then too!
Q. How long will it last for?
A. Everyone's cycle is different. You could have your period for 2-7 days, though most girls have theirs for 5.
Q. What should I do when I start my period?
A. It's a good idea to keep feminine products with you, especially if you have signs that your period is going to come. (scroll up and click the "period signs" column above for more info!) I recommend using a pad for your first period, as it is easy and worry free. All you need to do is unwrap the packaging, place the sticky adhesive on the bottom of your underwear, and if your pad has wings fold them down and around. You may want to keep the packaging to wrap your pad once you've wore it. Remember to never flush a pad!

Q. What does and irregular flow mean?
A. Irregular periods are common your first year of menstruating. But once you menstruate regularly and miss a period, it could mean you are pregnant. (Only if you're sexually active). Other causes of irregular periods are a change of diet, stress, extreme amounts of exercise, or drug use.
